Is Hydralyte suitable for diabetics?

Hydralyte contains 1.5–1.6 g glucose per 4 fl oz (100 mL). For people with diabetes, this is a small amount of glucose and is considered safe as part of an overall daily diet.

If you have vomiting and diarrhea, with considerable fluid loss, you should consult your doctor and discuss monitoring and management of glucose levels.

When unwell with diarrhea or vomiting, it is important to supply the body with some glucose, even for people with diabetes. Hydralyte can help provide glucose to help maintain blood glucose levels together with important electrolytes. Monitoring of blood glucose levels at this time is very important.

Does Hydralyte contain added sugars?

Hydralyte contains glucose at a low concentration, sufficient for successful rehydration. The sweetener in Hydralyte is sucralose, a modified form of table sugar.

What is the source of glucose in Hydralyte?

The source of glucose in Hydralyte is corn (also called maize).

How many calories does Hydralyte contain?

There are 80 food calories in 1 Liter (1.1 QT) of solution prepared from Hydralyte Oral Electrolyte Powders and Oral Solutions.

There are 110 food calories in 1 Liter (1.1 QT) of solution prepared from Hydralyte Effervescent Electrolyte Tablets.

What is the sweetener in Hydralyte?

Hydralyte contains sucralose, a modified form of table sugar.

Does Hydralyte contain isomalt, sodium saccharin or aspartame?

Hydralyte does not contain isomalt, sodium saccharin or aspartame.

Does Hydralyte contain fructose?

Hydralyte does not contain any added fructose. However it contains natural flavors that may contain small quantities of fructose. If you suffer from dietary fructose intolerance (malabsorption), Hydralyte will generally be well-tolerated. Should any unpleasant symptoms arise, cease taking the product. If you suffer hereditary fructose intolerance, consult your healthcare professional before use.

What are the preservatives used in Hydralyte?

Hydralyte Oral Electrolyte Powder and Hydralyte Effervescent Electrolyte Tablets DO NOT contain any preservatives.

Hydralyte Oral Electrolyte Solutions contain small amounts of potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate to prevent product spoilage. Both of these ingredients are found naturally in fruits such as oranges, lemons and cranberries, and help protect the fruit from mould.

Are the colors and flavors in Hydralyte natural?

Hydralyte Oral Electrolyte Powder and Hydralyte Effervescent Electrolyte Tablets:

  • Orange: Natural orange flavor, natural color (powder) synthetic color (effervescent) 
  • Berry: natural and artificial flavor, natural grape anthocyanin color
  • Lemonade: lemon lime flavor with other natural flavors, natural color 

Hydralyte Oral Electrolyte Solutions:

(Note – all colors used are approved artificial (synthetic) colors). All artificial colors are FDA batch certified.

  • Orange: Yellow 6, orange flavor with other natural flavors
  • Berry: Red 40, Blue 1, berry flavor with other natural flavors
  • Lemonade: No color, lemon lime flavor with other natural flavors

Does Hydralyte contain phenylalanine?

Hydralyte does not contain any phenylalanine.

Does Hydralyte contain salicylates?

  • There are no salicylates ADDED to Hydralyte (some other products use it as a preservative).
  • Hydralyte contains natural flavors, which are extracts of fruit; and fruit naturally contains some salicylates. Oranges and blackcurrants for example contain small concentrations.
  • Our flavor supplier advises that the level of salicylates is either very small or there are none in our orange flavor. (The supplier does not routinely measure salicylates).
  • Please consult your doctor if you have salicylates intolerance.

Is Hydralyte gluten and wheat free?

Yes, all forms of Hydralyte are gluten and wheat free.

Does Hydralyte contain yeast or traces of nuts?

Hydralyte does not contain any yeast or traces of nuts.

Does Hydralyte contain any animal products?

Hydralyte does not contain any animal products. It is suitable for vegetarians.

Does Hydralyte contain genetically modified ingredients?

Hydralyte does not contain any genetically modified ingredients.

Does Hydralyte contain lactose (milk sugar) or dairy products?

Hydralyte does not contain any lactose or dairy products.

Is Hydralyte suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

Hydralyte is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Does Hydralyte has a Kosher or Halal certificate?

We don’t have a Kosher or Halal certificate, but we can advise you that Hydralyte does not contain animal-derived ingredients.

Hydralyte is also parve (free of meat and dairy products).

How long can I use Hydralyte after opening or preparation?

Please refer to label/packaging.

  • Hydralyte Ready to Use Flavored Electrolyte Solutions – Refrigerate after opening and discard 1 month after opening.
  • Hydralyte Flavored Electrolyte Powders and Hydralyte Effervescent Electrolyte Tablets – 2 hours after preparation (or 24 hours after preparation if refrigerated).

Can I take too much Hydralyte?

Patients should not take more Hydralyte than is advised on the packaging. Please refer to Hydralyte packaging for usage directions.

Is Hydralyte suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers?

Hydralyte is suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, however if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and have vomiting and diarrhea please seek medical advice.

Is Hydralyte suitable for children under 12 months?

Hydralyte is suitable to use in children under 12 months – please refer to product page or product packaging for usage directions.

How long do I take Hydralyte for?

Drink Hydralyte when thirsty or exhibiting signs of dehydration, or while symptoms persist.

However, seek medical advice if vomiting or diarrhea persists for more than:

  • 12 hours in children under 3 years

  • 24 hours in children aged between 3 years to adults

If you are taking Hydralyte for a chronic medical condition, ensure you are seeking the advice of your doctor regarding the long term management of your condition.

Are there any cautions to be aware of?

Consult your doctor promptly if vomiting or diarrhea continues for more than:

  • 12 hours in children under 3 years
  • 24 hours in children 3 years to adults

If you have kidney disease or a kidney condition, or are taking heart or blood pressure medication, or are pregnant, discuss with your doctor before use.

The label says ‘use under medical supervision’ - what does this mean?

Hydralyte is a medical food.

As such, it is a food formulated to be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional for the dietary management of dehydration.
