Vomiting Diarrhoea

Vomiting and Diarrhoea

How to manage dehydration due to vomiting and diarrhoea?

Drinking a scientifically formulated oral rehydration solution such as Hydralyte is the most effective means to manage mild to moderate dehydration. Hydralyte should be sipped immediately and frequently while the vomiting and diarrhoea persist.

Do not restrict food. Eat when hungry; starving the body beyond 24hrs may prolong recovery. Try starchy foods such as rice, potatoes, bread, cooked cereal or dry biscuits.

If babies are being breastfed, continue this feeding but also give small sips of Hydralyte between feeds.

If babies are bottle fed continue this feeding but also give small sips of Hydralyte between feeds.

  • 6 hours in infants under 6 months
  • 12 hours in children under 3 years
